Marvelously skilled and quick as lightning, the incomparable Milton Johnson was the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s preeminent men’s soccer player over the course of the league’s first three years. The first student-athlete to ever win a GNAC Player of the Year award twice in any conference sport, Johnson was among the best to ever wear a Johnson & Wales uniform. The conference’s leading scorer and Player of the Year with 22 goals and 48 points in 1996, Johnson had 11 goals and 26 points in 1997 to capture his second consecutive Player of the Year award. He returned to action in 2001 to use his final year of eligibility while in graduate school at Johnson & Wales, and contributed another six goals, to thus become the second Wildcat player in team history to score over forty goals in a career.
Gavin Luscombe is a sports marketing intern at Blaze and senior at the University of Louisville on track to graduate in May ’23 with a B.S. in Sport Administration/minor in Psychology. Gavin brings to Blaze a passion for the people in sports, not just the industry. His goal is to help athletes figure out what makes them unique and how to leverage that into a brand that increases their income potential and professional opportunities. Prior to Blaze, Gavin honed his event planning and marketing skills interning at the Louisville Slugger Museum and Coldwell Banker Real Estate.
He polished his multitasking, listening, and problem-solving skills through years of waiting tables and bartending. Hailing from the “DMV” (DC/Maryland/Virginia) area, Gavin played baseball in high school until he severed a tendon in his pitching hand cliff-jumping. He still jumps off cliffs (and other structures) but had to hang up his cleats. With appreciation for irony, Gavin served as Director of Risk Management for the Beta Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He is currently Vice President of External Relations, negotiating and developing external partnerships for Phi Tau. In addition to thrill-seeking activities, Gavin likes to golf, play basketball, and fundraise for RaiseRED, a charity dedicated to ending childhood cancer.
